I am looking at hoses and fittings and I don't know what, for instance, a -03 AN fitting is. What size is it in inches (roughly)? Is there a chart somewhere with various sizes and equivalents? Thanks for any help.
"AN" is Army Navy stardard. This is a common light aviation spec.Typically the dash (-) is in 1/16"incremants, so - 03 would be 3/16" diameter. That's not always the case though. Find info on "an", "nas"(natiolal aircraft standard), and "ms" (military standard. There may be some help on the web.
use only AN fittings with AN fittings. I found you could match up a couple common plumbing fittings, and the AN would connect to it, but there is a difference in taper of the flare and you won't get a seal.
I think the AN fittings had a deeper flare angle to give more of a surface to mate to and thus a safer connection.
