Default 68 horn relay

hoping someone can help with this relay issue.my horns stopped working recently,,i get the buzzing from the relay on the fender well, but no horn.so i look closer at the relay and the black metal cap covering it is loose.so i wiggle it a bit, thinking i can just lift it off to look inside, and then it sparks,,the cover touches some of the insides, which causes the sparks.now realizing theres alot of power going thru the horn relay, i leave it alone.do you think i just unhook the battery and remove the relay, look inside it for a broken wire to solder or what.it is a 1968 327 4 speed with air.thank you to all that chime in.tom in cleveland, ohio

The 68 horn relay is a major electrical system component. I would agree you want to disconnect the battery before you play with it.

Good luck.

If I remember right, the cap is crimped on and should not be loose. I would not mess with it. It is sealed to provide protection from the elements. Buy a new one. I would not be surprised if the sparking fried a fuse or fusible link. Tom, I was born and raised in Parma and I worked at MTD, in maintenance, for 34 years, until they closed the plant. Where do you live? Lou.
