Default Trying to find replacement part

We're troubleshooting the vacuum on a '79. I'm using http://www.corvette-101.com/vacuum.htm as a guide.

One of the tests that failed was for the Head Lamp Actuators. The first phase that tested the internal diaphragm passed, the second test for internal diaphragm and real sealing grommet failed. The guide says to replace the grommet- here lies my question....what grommet?

I've looked on Ecklers and Zips, neither have a real sealing grommet. Is there another name for this part?

Thank you!

I'm thinking they mean the headlight rod seal. Try Corvette Central's site and type in P/N 443096 and let me know if you think we are on the same page.

I honestly don't know if that's the correct part or not. Here's what the guide says:

FUNCTION: The headlamp actuators open or close the headlamp doors. More specifically, the green hose opens the headlamp doors and red closes them.
TROUBLESHOOTING: Perform the following two steps in order.

1. With headlamps in the closed position, disconnect the large red hose and attach the vacuum pump. If the vacuum pressure holds, the internal diaphragm is good. If the vacuum pressure drops, the internal diaphragm is leaking and the actuator must be replaced.

2. With the headlamps in the open and locked position (if the headlamps will not open normally, try opening them manually by pushing them up from the front underside of the vehicle), disconnect the large green hose and attach the vacuum pump. If vacuum pressure holds, the internal diaphragm and rear sealing grommet are both good. If the vacuum pressure drops, replace the grommet. NOTE: If you do not open the headlamps prior to this test, applying vacuum to the port should slowly open the headlamps until they are completely open. At this point this port should hold a vacuum.

My recollection was that it is really just the diaphragm and this "grommet" that do all the sealing - the accordion shaped dust boot just keeps things semi-clean.

Looks like an abuse of terminology. Accuators do not have grommets. Actuators have seals.

the accordian boot is just a cover, the rod seal usually goes bad.

1968-1982 Corvette C3 headlight Acutator Rod Seals

The HDL-224 is the rod seal by itself, the HDL-291 is the kit with the boot and retainer.

I remember you calling, I think this is what you are looking for.

I've the same your problem.
Is there a way to replace the seal without removing the actuator from the car? Thanks
