Default Borgeson Rag Joint 90 Degrees off

Hi Guys

I just installed a Borgeson steering gear and the rag joint is 90 degrees off from my steering wheel being correct. I removed the steering wheel and hub and as suspected could possible correct the orientation but don't want to do this. There are marks scribed on the end of the steering shaft and the hub to align. has anyone else had this issue?

The only other thing you can do is take it to a front end alignment place. They will adjust the tie rods to center the steering wheel out.

the lock stud and nut on the shaft end of the joint DO NOT line up with the flat on the shaft. It goes 90* to the passenger side and should be facing the engine. you have to grind a new flat on the shaft.

Instead of buying the borgeson u-joint or rag joint, I modified my original rag joint. On the flange that fits the original box, I used a carbide burr and ground out the spline and left the flat area alone. It fits on the jeep box amazingly well. With the box centered and the steering column shaft centered as original, the modified flange slips right onto the jeep box input shaft. The jeep box had to have a relief ground into the shaft for the pinch bolt because the one it had is on the opposite side.

Hey this is the fourth or fifth C3 I installed a borgeson in and the car is not steady over the road (81 PS C3). I just noticed that in the directions it says You need to install a manual relay rod or #990002 adapter. This is a Power Steering 81 C3 all the others I did were early C3 manual to Borgeson. Is the lack of this part or part adapter My problem. I have the caster set at 3.8 and the set screw on new flat spot. I am going to call Blair at Borgeson in the morning just wondering if anyone else knows the answer.
Thanks Edd

If your not using this, what are you using? the stock PS valve? this is part #990002. my car goes straight as an arrow, but I did the alingment myself and got it as perfect as I could. took over 4 hours. if you are paying someone to do it I doubt they spent that much time on it.

Edd,

You NEED to use part #990002 or the car will dart all over the road......oh wait!

The control valve is unsuitable for this application, get this part or a manual relay rod/drag link.

Regards from Down Under.

Default rag joint

Hey Gwank Your 100% right I did have that adapter on. My Bad! I have too many cars. I went out in Garage and looked sure enough it is on there. I was thinking it was another part I forgot or something. I did the alignment Myself I have alignment equipment. I think I may have a bad box as I had to adjust some play out of it. When I am finished with the body work I will recheck it. Thanks Gwank
