Default Engine information 79 vette needed

I have a 79 vette with engine code 3970010 with pad code of K04 19 TBC. As near as I can find this has about 165-175 HP. Why so weak? What is differant about this engine that it is weak compared to other 350's? Is it because of differant heads or what? Im not sure if its a 2 or 4 bolt. All comments welcomed!

Your engine was assembled at the McKinnon Industries engine plant in St. Catherines Ontario Canada on April 16th and originally installed in a light truck. The year of the vehicle would be determined by the casting date on the block

It was 'low' on HP when built as a combination of compression ratio, cam, intake, exhaust, carb, valve size etc etc. All fixable if you throw enough money at it.

Poor old base L48 motor had been choked off and detuned withpoor exhaust and catalytic converter, low compression... , no cam, 3.08 or worse rear gear......base car was mainly as transportation......fancy grocery getter. Same engine basically as grandmothers 79 Impala...Pretty car, just not very exciting to tear the road up in. Even grandmothers complained of lack of performance ...lol...

like mike said, there's lots of ways to fix the performance .....nothing time and money can't solve.
