I can only speak from experience and tell you that the T-56 will fit, but will require you to cut the tunnel. Also the shifter will come out the center and about 2" further back in the console.
I think the ROD 6 speed is the easiest fit with the fewest modifications.
I would like to upgrade to 5 sp too. What are ther costs? I remember a forum member saying $3500 total. When I called Richmond Gear w/question the tech told me to avoid overdrive because of the strain on od gear in performance driving! OD was meant for ecnomy not performance! Can the forum share their thoughts/experiences?
I did a T-5 swap about a month ago, fairly straight forward swap + cheap($1000.00) complete. Some people say there not strong enough but I've had no problems what so ever. :smash: T-5's are found in camaros and firebirds, mines out of an 88' irock.
Any ideas on what else came with the T-5 to help in the search? I need an overdrive!! Did S10 pickups come with them??? Also, same questions as the last post, how intensive was the swap? Driveshaft mods? Support changes? Bellhousing/clutch changes?
Thanks,
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
Strain on the od.
I have a richmond 6-speed in my 80.
You gotta luv the overdrive.
Makes for great highway milage and low rpm
With the 5 non-od gears it makes for a lot of fun in traffic.
You are never in the wrong gear!
I guarantee red-line in sixth is faster than you have the ***** to push it to...
Gear Vendors also makes an intersting automatic solid gear overdrive. http://www.gearvendors.com I think. Worth checking out. You buy their OD and use it in your current transmission.
Yes S-10's came with them, but there are different torque specs. Do a search here on 5 speed. Swap took me around 30 hours to complete. Had to make my tranny crossmember removable and shorten the drive shaft. I used my bellhousing therefore no clutch or linkages needed mods. This swap is well worth the time and money just be warned "not for the mechanicly impaired" :seeya
What options are out there for an overdrive manual transmission for C3s? What is the most cost effective option? Blah Blah Blah.
The GM Tremec TKO 5-speed is a awsome transmission!! The .68 overdrive is awsome and the transmission can handle up to 525 ft/lbs of torque - much more than the Richmond 5-speed or any other transmission at that price range.. I paid $1795 for my TKO!!! The installation is relatively easy too!
Yea Oliver, when you mechanic does it for you! :p: ;)
What I've read about the TKO install from other forum members that did the swap themselves - it doesn't seem like it's too difficult.... The only thing I know for a fact that it took my mechanic only a day of work to install it (including removal of the old engine and transmission!!
