Heat Riser
Have a 58-74 style spring operated heat riser on my 70, and want to make sure I installed it correctly. Maybe should consider spacer later, but the riser is new and is on there now. Want to confirm operation.
When cold is the weight in the "up" position and falls via the bi-metallic spring once warm?

What I tried for a while was to get the heat riser to open sooner, to improve the exhaust flow. I drilled and tapped the counterweight on the heat riser, and screwed in a piece of threaded rod and some heavy hex nuts to add a bit of weight. I would only do this with a (quick heating) aluminum intake manifold. Don't do it if you still have a cast iron manifold.
