You wired something up wrong and its grounding out the instant you throw power to the starter. I wish I could be more helpful, but electrical is hard to diagnose via a thread forum. All I can say is that you did a bunch of rewiring work....for your ignition switch to suddenly go bad now is a serious improbability.
kid, the key is supposed to turn off everything except the starter.
you need to test things.
get a volt meter and hook it to the starter solenoid and turn the key to start.
post back what you find.
Does the car "turn off" when you put it in start and turn back on when it returns to run? Or does it turn off and stay off?
If it's the turn off and stay off case: I have a kill switch and if I don't get it up all the way kicking the starter over will "kill" the car. Make sure your battery connections are well seated and tight. Dead cells can cause strangeness like this as well.
I was right about the wire from the battery to alternator. I final was able to pull it out. Will most of it. It shorted out and welded itself to the frame.
