Default Rim Size Fitting?

Hi guys,

I have a 69 vette vert. I was looking to upgrade the rims...what generations actually bolt on/fit?

C4? C5? C6?

Thanks,
Ron

The bolt pattern is the same, but substantial spacers are required due to the backspacing, or offset.

The standard C6 wheels, 18x8.5 and 19x10 require something like 3.5" rear spacers/adapters and the front around 2.75". Don't quote me on that. If you look around for "BLCKSLVR79" on here or at digitalcorvette he has all the info back in 2010/11 when he did the conversion. I have the page bookmarked at home if you can't find it.

Are spacers ok? any issues with using them under hard street driving?

thanks,

Here is my stalking research of BLCKSLVR79...

http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru...=94562&page=12

http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru...=145346&page=2

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...c6-wheels.html

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...rills-fit.html

and here is a good thread on wheel spacing in general

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...spacing-2.html

Now remember, the wheels BLCKSLVR79 and I have are the standard (non-Z06) 2005-2008 5 spoke wheels. Fronts 18x8.5 +56 and rear 19x10 +79. If yours are any different, you will have to adjust the spacer size.

This is a good calculator for converting offset to backspace
http://www.ccwheel.com/technical.php

This should get you started

wow...mike...that great...but slightly creepy?...JUST KIDDING! that is awesome! I am totally the same way! Great Info!

I am looking at black C6 spyder rims OR C6 ZR1 rims...

First, got some stuff to do on the house (looking to sell next year! then to nicer weather!), then got the green light for a light frame-off in garage with mild restomod!

Will keep you posted!

Did you do any mods to fit those rims? any suspension mods/upgrades?

Thanks,
Ron

I know Ron

Anyway, I actually haven't completed mine yet. I have the wheels with tires mounted stacked in the living room (Wife loves that!) but my body and frame are separated in the garage with lots to do. I'm pretty close to completing my rolling chassis and was going to go ahead and order the spacers, as I'm anxious just to get them on, BUT I'm thinking, if I can hold back, that it would be smarter to wait until the body goes back on the frame. I hope to be absolutely sure on MY sizes, and, if once the spacers come in and I have issues, I have a much better chance getting a replacement the same week then contacting a company 9 months later and asking to swap them out.

BUT, with all the calculating I've done on BLCKSLVR79's set-up, it's gonna be damn close. I think the fronts are pretty spot on, but I'm hoping to tuck the rears in a bit more so I can lower it a decent amount and not hit the lip. Also because if you go through the process of ordering from the website that he did (can't remember it off hand), they offer sizes in like thousandths of an inch increments, not just like 2" 2.25" 2.5" so you can really dial it in.

...yes I have/will have some suspension mods. VB&P Dual mount rear leaf, heim joint strut rods, Bilsteing Sports shocks, 550lb front spring, etc.

Those are the same style wheels that I have, but mine are 17"x9.5" front and rear with 275/40 ZR17 tires and 2.5" wheel adapters all around. I'm not sure if they are needed, but I also have offset trailing arms.

Mike- I got it with the timeframes! yeah...wait til it is time! Hopefully sooner than later!

I am trying to plan it out now...because my garage is only usable til snow falls...probably nov/dec...I am hoping to do the resto in August... as I can use the whole 3 car garage...after the snow, then I go down to 1...

I have 2000 five spoke C5 wheels, and I have 3.5 in rear adapters, and 2.5 front adapters. Make sure they are hub centric. You may also need to move the e brake cable in the back.

And replace the old wheel studs, or you'll be sorry at some point.

Just for comparison, your wheels should be;

Front 17x8.5 - 58mm
Rear 18x9.5 - 65mm

Fronts are pretty similar to the C6 but backs are def. different. Those rears convert to a 7.809 backspace and with your 3.5" adapter that results in a 4.309" backspace. The C6 19x10 is a 8.6102" backspace and with BLCKSLVR's 3.75" it is a 4.8602" backspace, or as he recommends, a 3.5" adapter makes a 5.11" backspace.

How does yours look? Seems like it would be sticking out the well quite a bit?

Sticks out about half an inch in the back. Personally, I love the way the tires look sticking...very animal. Like a beast. And with a nice hard suspension, I'm not concerned about rubbing. I need to upload some updated photos of it at some point...

WOW Mike! You are like "Bill Ney the Science guy!"

So, after discussions with the wife...being we have a 6 month old...AND are looking to move/relocate...I can free time up in mid-august to start the work! Will keep you posted...I will probably get the engine built prior to...Figured a good power band on a 454, 10.5:1 ratio, pushing about 500 horse should be great! VERY comparable, even big brother like to the 427...I thought any more is kind of unruly. I like being very streetable/cruising.

Will upgrade all bushings and brake lines...not sure if will upsize the brakes. so you will see more posts in the near future.

thanks,
R

Brakes typically are not necessary. Our 4 piston calipers are pretty respectable for being so old. Unless you are going to be tracking the car quite a bit I wouldn't bother.
