Ok sorry for all the questions but aside of the belt replacement question, this one is really weird... When I turn the ignition off theres a dinging noise like when you leave the lights on or something, and sometimes I have to crank the car and turn it back off and it will stop but now it seems for some weird reason the only way to get it to stop is to turn the AC switches on then back off and cut the car off and it stops....anyone else had this problem. 78 Corvette.
If I crank the car and drive and then come home or the store and cut the car off and remove the key the ding happens while the key is in the ignition. I then turn the key to the lock position, then turn it like Im going to crank it but not crank it then flip the AC switches to the right then back left and turn the key to the lock position and remove the key and its stopped.
I hope I explained that well enough for you to understand its kinda weird cause I can halfway turn the ignition switch and remove the key it does it. But then it does it the other way too.
It's probably related to the "key minder" switch. While I'm not sure about your particular year, most vehicles have a contact built into the lock cylinder. This contact is pushed up (and open) by inserting your key. If it is broken, worn, or the wire is damaged, it won't work right (stays connected) and operates a chime to let you know you've left the key in the ignition. The most likely problem is a faulty lock cylinder. To replace it, you'll have to remove the steering wheel, remove a screw that holds in the lock cylinder, put the key in an slightly turn it,the lock cylinder will pull out. PM me if you have any further questions.
