I have not seen any since the introduction of the catalytic converter... the reason is the catalytic has to run very hot to do to the convertation of the gases, it is so named because it converts the three main pollutants in automobile exhaust: carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbon and oxides of nitrogen. The first two undergo catalytic combustion and the last is reduced back to nitrogen... but it has to run hot, and long tube headers do not do this well. back in 1972, my Jeep CJ5 had headeres with the ports built in for the smog pump. but shortly after that the catalytic converter was introduced and thoes headeres went way..
Just about any header can be modified to accept those pipes, you'll just have to throw some money at it. How much? Couldn't say. I can't imagine it would be that much, though.
Yes Sir; General motors had a production set of Stainless Steel, block huger headers, on the 1981, 1982, & 1980 Cal. 305 Corvette's. Bolt right on with the Air Pipes welded in by the Factory. G. M. stated that it added around 14 H. P. There are some still around on the Corvette Forum. & I think one guy is taking them, adding Powder Coat, & reselling them. I Have a couple sets myself. Which I coated with Por 15 header paint. You can tell the added H. P. is there. Have a great one. Gene

there are long tube headers with air tubes in them available, they also sell a "kit for installing the air tubes in just about any brand of headers. the headers that are built with the air tubes are expensive but available. you may have to call summit, they don't list them on the site but they can get them.

But the cat will not work with long tube... And it will fail smog...
My '81 came w/ those stainless block hugger headers, and w/ the air tubes. I took them off and installed long tube headers. Got rid of all the smog devices. I still have them laying around if you're interested. They supposedly flow better than the cast manifolds and are a lot lighter.
Yes Sir; Thanks for asking, but no, I want to keep them handy just in case. I have thought about installing them on my 77. I also have a set of 2.5 inch off a 1986, I don't know if they will fit or not. texas jim is the guy you want to talk to. Have a great one. Gene
I'm sorry if I seem like i am dragging this out but, if i go with them (the factory shorties) ill see about 15 HPs right vs. about 30 for longtubes, and the factories are a better fit up, and with out the heat issues?
