I was going to work on a trim piece so I turned on the wipers the door went back and the wipers came on and worked great. I forgot about the override under the dash so I turned off the key. The wipers stopped in the middle of the windshield and the door hit them. Then I remembered the override and pulled it door went back and I turned the key back on but wipers didnt work. Is there a switch or something I can do to get them runnong again. The dash switch clicks but does nothing. What to do???

You aware of the electric bypass swith I'm sure but your discrption sounds like you pulled the vacum bypass switch, Could be you bumped the electric switch at any rate that's what it sounds like to me if it went bad you can short the 2 wires together, or ground the one from your motor ckt. I asume every thing worked fine prior to this event?
Yes wipers worked great before the door hit them. I dont know where the bypass switch is and no I have not pulled anything yet. I have got the vacuum working now but the wipers only click when I hit the switch on the dash. Where is the bypass switch??? Are the wires your talking about the ones coming out of the wiper motor under the hood?
Left meaning the drivers side or the passenger side. I dont know where the limit switch is but I will look. Thanks dntoearthman and DZRick OK fellas I found the limit switch and now Ill check it. Thanks again

Over ride switch, used so you can change wiper blades, it's located between the headlamp & wiper door manual actuation vacum switchs, thats what I meant when you said pulled. It should be a round blk **** that you turn, If it's not there then it has been or needs to be grounded
/ jumpered / bypassed / or the 2 wires tied together to complete the circut. If you still have problems PM me and we can talk you thru it.
My experiance has been when this swicth is left in the overide position it will drain your battery, w/ key off, disconnect battery & you will hear the wiper relay click off, reconect it will click on ect.
I will try that in the morning. Thank you for your input it has already been a great help!! Tennessee, what a beautiful state. My peeps are originally from Waynesboro!
A 68 wiper motor is wired differently than a 69-up vette. You can really mess things up by turning the key off. Always use the round, wiper over-ride **** to stop it. Please be aware that a 68 wiper motor is always hot, even with the key off. Many 68's have caught on fire because of this. They really had a good engineer design this, not! Your wiper motor did not go into the park position. Lou.

Sorry, left meaning the passenger side looking at the wiper motor from the front of the car.
You might want to get yourself a multi-meter and check to see if you have vottage at the motor.
Don't know if you have this but it' should help a lot, this and the video for the '68 should get you up and running.
Ok the override switch under dash is vacuum no wires. The switch to the left of the wiper motor shows to be ok. There is no limit switch in the wiper arm area like it shows in the book. When you push the wiper switch to the right it clicks and when you push it for the washer it clicks but wipers dont move. I have jumped the wires checked the wires and all the fuses are good. Should I remove the wiper motor or what. Its strange that before I turned the key of with the wipers running everything worked fine and now the wiper wont move?
Just drove the car, pulled into the driveway, turned the key off, and the wipers, that had been at half windshield, put themselves away and the door closed??? So I cranked the car hit the wiper switch and it clicked but nothing happened but the wiper are back where they belong?? So I punt!!!!
The vacuum switch in the wiper arm well is only on 69-72. Not on a 68. You have three controls under your steering column. The left one (vacuum and not electrical) is for manually raising the headlights, The round **** in the middle, is the wiper over-ride switch, the right hand control is to manually raise your wiper panel and is vacuum, not electrical. I think early 68's had the over-ride **** first, on the left and then the two vacuum controls and these were located under the tach. Lou.
Just went through all this on my 68, And the sequence of the 3 switches under the steering wheel on the 68 are from left to right, vacuum for the headlights and then round **** for stopping the wipers on windshield to change them, then vacuum **** for wiper door. Also found on my 68 the limit switch next to the wiper motor had a worn spring so would not sit as far out as new so the wiper door bolt was not touching the button, I had to get a longer bolt to activate the limit switch button after that the wipers would work.
What that limit switch does is tell the wipers that the door is fully open. Sounds confusing i know.
Ok guys I think we got it.!!!! I found a bad wire going to the limit switch. WOW this has been tuff for me. I havent worked on vacuum and electrical in about 30 yrs, so the stuff I use to know was all burnt up in there, but thru the help of all YA"LL out there I got thru it. Again I would like to thank everyone who stayed with me on this and I hope I can be helpful to ya'll sometime. Ill let you know how it turns out. THANKS GUYS
