I had my tranny rebuilt a while back for my 78 vette. It is an automatic, well, finally got it in and finally went to move the car and found the gears are reversed. drive is reverse reverse is drive Did I hook the linkage up wrong? Did I not have the only lever on the tranny in the correct position when I hooked up the cable? I called the shop that rebuilt the tranny and they thought the pump was messed up, that I snapped it when I tightened the bell housing ,by not having it aligned properly on the flywheel. But they said I shouldn't have reverse and I do Please tell me it is something simple like the linkage is in wrong place? Shop said they will get back with me Did the instulation from the floor with car jacked up and on stands, sure hate to remove it again
The auto trans control lever on the left side of the trans is installed upside down, the lever should stick UP and then the shifter cable attached....even if my mammary is rong, just flip the piece of steel the other way and it's fine.....

Thanks I will try that in morning and see what happens
Yes you hooked it up wrong . disconnect linkage , go under car and put it in park , to know it is park try to rotate the wheels. Now move it to neutral and connect your shiftier cable.

I went under it this morning and the linkage was upside down from the shop and I never paid attention to it , switched it around and works except is there a adjustment on the cable , it is hard to get it in park all the way I have to put alittle pressure on the shift lever to start it and also have to use some force to get it into first if I want to use the shifter. works great in drive
Did you set it in N when you hooked cable up ? If you did , go back and disconnect the cable again , pull it into low and hook it up and see how that works.

actually I did not I just took the bolt off , flipped it around and tried it Your saying put it in first (low) after i disconnect the cable then move the klever to hook cable back up?
The correct way is put it in neutral , hook it up then test it. It should be good doing it that way .
