Hi All,
Well, our 82 CE is a beauty, but I have a serious problem. Despite keeping her covered with a while outside, water still gets in. Now, I know that simple solution would be keep her inside, and I am working on that. But, meanwhile, I fear every rain storm. To me, the best solution is to replace the 30+ year old weatherstripping.
She needs it around the back hatch BAD. She does leak some around the front top edge of the door windows on both sides.
Any recommendations on whose weatherstripping to use? I've read some of the import stuff is crap. I want her fixed RIGHT! I want to be able to take a pressure washer to her and not see a drop inside.
Thanks a bunch, and hope to see you around.

I have seen a couple of 82's with tape and silicone around the rear hatch window. So your not the only one to have this issue. The Top of the side windows is always an problem area with C3's and its just a matter of good Weather Stripes and careful ajustment. I replaced all of this on my 80', I used the best Strips one of the major vendors offered, I might not of know who's they were at the time. The T-Tops were way harder than the rest of the car, and took 3 times as long to do. I'd have a good look at what you have now, and replace whats worn out, and ajust whats not.
Where you purchase is up to you. What you purchase is key. Factory weatherstipping was latex, so you want latex replacement weatherstripping. Anything not latex is likely to be too hard for good wind and water sealing.
Part of the problem is that the hinges on the rear window spread with age. This results in the rear window slipping towards the rear of the car which not only might cause leaks, but also makes the window harder to open. Eventually you won't be able to open it as the pins towards the rear get caught under the opening mechanism. I highly recommend replacing them along with the weather stripping. Contact steve@thecubestudio.com for a quality set. I ordered a set and their great.

I too used Steve's hinges and they work great. I was suprised how much difference in the hinges. Also i bought my weather stripping from Wilcox. The rear hatch piece is pretty expensive but worked with no problems. There seems to be more to installing the new ones than just glueing it on. Since your old ones were worn after thirty years you need to adjust all the glass to fit the new tolerances, at least i did. Wilcox service guys were a big help to me in getting it right the first time. DON'T make the mistake of not cleaning the new stripping with Acetone before you glue it on. It has a mold release agent that keeps the glue from adhereing. Take my word for it - I was stupid the first time.
