Took my 82 to a reputable muffler shop this morning to fix my exhaust leak. They called and said its leaking where the 4 tubes go in the collector and can't fix it. Said I need new headers. So who sells them and do I need a special kind with sensors or what? BTW, they dont install headers

Hi cpita, not sure where you are located but Summit Racing carries Hedman Headers which the model 68300 is made specifically for our cars.
Hedman also makes a ceramic coated version of the header for more money if you would like to go that route.
I have 68300 installed in my 77 and everything fit with no interference or issues. Incidentally, the headers are made to fit the stock heads. But my car has Dart Pro 1 heads with straight plugs and the headers fit with no issues.
I agree. Take it to another shop for second opinion.
If you do need new headers take donyue's advice and find some Hedmans. I have the 68300's and have had them on my '78 for 16 years, just replaced the gaskets a couple weeks ago. It's really not hard to do yourself either. Couple hours work under the car and you're good to go.
Find a new muffler shop that will fix your old ones, or at least install new ones. The place you're dealing with now sounds pretty lame. Most guys who work at muffler shops like to install headers. Makes 'em feel like they're doing something cool, working on a hot rod.
