Default Non-popup head lights?

I am aware that Ecklers and Gulstrands sell kits for non pop-up headlights, but it seems that $700 plus the cost of new lenses seems a little high for a couple pieces of aluminum and plastic.

Are there any other vendors out there? I just can not see how they (Ecklers especially) can charge that much. Gulstrands at least have a LeMans style lens cover that looks like it might have taken some engineering to figure out, but Ecklers is just a piece of plexiglass with some holes drilled in it, for $200.

Please tell me that someone out there somewhere has seen or invented a less pricey alternative. I really don't want to have to fab this part myself but I just don't want to spend the $700 for something that can't cost more that $100 to make.

Thanks for any leads,

Russ

I too am interested in switching out to Non Pop Up lights but, I am going to keep my pop up assemblies incase I want to switch back. I found another vendor recently here in Louisiana...Try Vanacor's Corvette.
URL = http://www.vanacorvette.com. They don't however have the lexan lenses that cover the assembly.

I really like the style that rainman posted, but I also like the flat style.

Subboz,

Thanks for helping me out with those pics. As you can probably tell, I'm leaning towards building my own. The price just seems unreasonable to me. I know it's a good product, but like everything else "Corvette" the markup is at least 400%. My brother has a 65 mustang and he needed to replace his rear taillight lens. I told him it was pretty expensive as I recently priced them from Ecklers for my 77 ($50 each x4), well I looked around and the replacements for his 65 mustang cost...........$5 each x2. 20 times more expensive for the corvette set.

Anyhow, any others out there running non pop-ups?

The link you posted was in German. Am I missing something?

How did you get hold of them and what was the approximate cost.

Thanks,

ylose,

Would you be willing to share a little more information about your rear end work? I am about to start the same job this weekend and was wondering what you did, where and what parts you bought, how much it all cost. If you would be willing, I'd really appreciate the specifics. You can e-mail me at russellfulks@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Who would want to install "non" popup headlights? To me, that was one of the attractions of the C3's lines.
I understand that everybody has their own tastes, or maybe the ones I'm thinking of are real cheap ones.
If you want some square headlight ones, I have a set that came with my basket case that I have contemplated tossing out just because they are sooooo ugly! :U

I personally like the look of the bubble glass covered headlights or even the flat glass style headlights. Oh, and of course Oliviers headlights are awesome!

427basketcase, if you have extra non pop-up lights that you are looking to get rid of, please let me know. Maybe we can work something out. You can drop me an e-mail at russellfulks@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Russ

No, you weren't missing anything.
Someone else posted pics of this setup before, I just sent an email asking about price and availability, here is the answer I got:

Hi Neil,
here are the prices for the Headlight-Kit you`re requested;
Lamps (4) 350€
Lower Cover (Aluminum, must be painted) incl. all Hardware you need 300€
Upper Headlightcovers are from Eckler`s and must be painted from inside Price in USA 199$

Hope this could help you
Best Regards
ACP Mike

Not sure if those first numbers are Euros or DM, anyone know?

I'm sure you have all seen the Breathless Performance C5 popup replacements. They now also make them for c4s. They both look sweet as they are contoured covers and not just flat plastic (which is what I dislike about the Eckler's kits). I emailed them last week to see if they were going to make them for c3s. I'll let you know what they say.
