want to work on an old car
Haha..could not tell if that was a good ending for you or not; I mean, bummer to be stood up for the day when you could have been doing other things.
Anyway FWIW- I used safelite to replace a windshield in my `06 Malibu a couple years ago, and the tech w/only 4 yrs experience did an outstanding job...come to think of I had the windshield in my`93 K1500 done that day too.
I am sure they normally dont operate that way. I think i got lucky if the tech did not care any more than that i probably didnt want him working on my car either
Had a bad experience with them about 10 years ago, with my wifes car, no way would I let them work on my classic anything, but I am glad it worked out good for you.
I've found amazing differences in quality of work and customer service from Safelite locations. That said, they've done 2 windshields out of (counting on fingers and toes) at least 10 that didn't leak. However, they've never scratched a car - and the last time I gave them a bugger job, the guy spent 2 hours at my house while I welded up holes in the windshield frame. The next time he came out (it leaked), he replaced the rubber seal and glued the windshield in... all no charge ($70 savings)...
I kind of have a different rule for quality work. If they fix their problem with a smile; I'll use them again.
Honestly, I'm surprised they don't have a picture of me on their wall with a "don't work on this guy's crap" written next to it because I'm sure they're still well away from making a profit.... YRMV
well, Glass Doctor sent a tech this morning, the guy has been doing it for 30 years. he just sold his 77 corvette to someone local. he has a vega with a rat motor and a 69 camaro. we took out the windshield and found some heavy surface rust in a couple small spots. really not a big deal, used a wire wheel and treated with ospho. recommended letting it sit till monday and will come back to install glass. allows me to re dye the dash and paint the trim. i couldn't recommend anyone in this area more highly.
i am now much happier that safelite screwed up
Most places will not work on older cars for a variety of reasons and one of them is most installers don't have experience roping in windshields or dealing with the bright work that is installed around the glass..
