I've been having vapor lock issues and want to get it FIXED. After looking my situation over, here's what I have.....350/300hp GM Performance Crate Engine; Holley Street Avenger 640 (with heat shield on the manifold) and Holley mechanical pump with 1 inlet and 1 outlet (no return line...the return line is in-tact but plugged), Auto Transmission and 3.08 Rear End. OK...I have since purchased an ACDelco Mechanical Fuel Pump 41240...it has the correct # of inlet/outlets. Before installing it and re-hooking the return line, my mechanic (who has been working on my Vette for as long as I have had it..12yrs) told me.."If I were you, I would install an electric fuel pump with regulator." Either way, he's going to reconnect the return line.
Now my questions....Should I change from mechanical to electric fuel pump with regulator to 6.5lbs? If so, which model/brand would you recommend? AND Why?
Return line circulates fuel from tank keeping fuel in line at lower temperatures - I am running 528 hp 489 cu in with 950 dp carb - using stock replacement mechanical fuel pump.
Thanks Guys...I'll have him install the AC Delco mechanical fuel pump. It seems ANYTIME I replace any part with an aftermarket or an enhancement, "Ellen" (name of my Vette) seems to NOT LIKE it and it fails. ie: QuadraJet to Holley Throttle Body Fuel Injection...FAIL Replaced with Holley Street Avenger..and She LOVES IT! 140 amp alternator...FAIL 100 amp alternator...loves it. I can name several other parts that I replaced and it failed and when I installed the OEM or equivalent, it works FINE. Oh well....
