Default ? on ignition diagnosis

Well a friend and I have been trying to get the vette to run after a fresh rebuild, and we're not getting spark after a slight mishap. The first time we were gonna start it, the starter hung up and continued to spin, even after the key was off. The car had run for about 2 secs(there was spark) and then we cut it off. Later we tried again and the starter seemed fine. Now there is no point spark or anything. We replaced the coil. This may sound dumb, but should there be power to the coil with the key off because there is 12 volts there, wouldn't that burn the points? We replaced the starter but haven't tried to start it again. Could the problem be in the solenoid, or is it more. This is still the stock distributor. Any help would be great. Thanks

maybe you switched the 2 solenoid wires?

easy enough to get it to run, put a wire from coil+ to battery, just for a tempory cam break-in. Then study the wiring diagram in the book.
Tip: always tag each wire whey you take it apart.
I once switched 2 wires, and the fuel pump would only run when it had zero oil pressure
