Default Rebuilding motor

Pulled the motor and trans out of my '79 due to excessive oil usage. I'm planning on having the heads checked out by a local shop along with hot tanking the block before re-ringing.
Am I ok oiling the block and parts and wrapping them in plastic to work on next year while I clean the engine bay or should I get the motor back together before storing it?

I would store the motor as is. I've had motors rebuilt sitting on stands for years with no problem and others two months and the cylinders flash rusted and I had to go through it again $$$$

I just pulled a 454 out of storage. Pulled out, set on a stand, nothing really covered other than a couple of rags stuffed in the distributor hole and over the intake. No plugs on the exhaust ports or anything. Set there for 22 years. Dropped a distributor in, new spark plugs and wires, carb and fuel pump, changed the oil, and it fired right up. No smoke and runs perfect. Good oil pressure too.
Since you're planning on rings and bearings, have them check the cylinders for wear too. Might save you from doing it twice. I'd vote for not tearing it down until you're ready to rebuild.
