Default Another 200R4 question

Before you start beating on me for not searching this out, I have looked at several old threads and can't find exactly what I need...

I recently purchased a 77 with an 87 5.7 and 200R4 in it. Someone tried to do a nice job and most of the mods are pretty good, but not great. However it runs and drives so I'm happy that I have something to drive while my 80 project is progressing.

The problem I'm having is with the shifter. The car still has the original 350TH shifter which is not a problem. The problem is that the adjustment of the cable is so far off that Park doesn't engage. I know that I won't be able to manually select First using the original setup, but I really would like to get Park working. I need some really good instructions and perhaps a picture or two to boot?

The TV cable is fine as the complete 87 engine and transmission were installed together. I do not have the converter lockup working yet but that is in the works.

Thanks!

go down to the linkage on the trans, take the cable loose from the actuator, move the actuator foward toward the front of the car till it stops, thats park. loosen the bolts holding the cable mount, move the cable mount foward, the mounting holes may be slotted, till the eye on the end of the cable goes back on the actuator pin, tighten the bolts back up, put the cotter pin back in the cable. should be good to go

Yes, but the old 350/400 shifter cable mount bracket fits kind of odd on the 200 4r trans, so one of the bracket holes may need be cut and bent into a open slot/flange to catch the other bolt, one of them will set in place and adjust fine......been a long time since I did this, so I forget which bolt hole I had to modify.....

It is the front hole on the TH350 bracket. Just cut the end of the bracket so there is a open ended slot and use a couple of flat washers to sandwich the bracket when bolting to the transmission.

Tried this yesterday. Took the bracket off and fixed the front hole. Moved the actuator all the way forward (solid click into place), mounted the bracket as mentioned, hooked up the cable and tried it out. No park. I'm confused...

This is not only for you , but for others with 2004R's
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...ynVV7NfE52Wo5w
take the cable loose from the shift actuator, push the actuator all the way foward 'into park' with the cable still disconnected, lower the car to the ground, remove the jack and see if its now in park by attempting to roll the car. if it is , adjust your cable bracket forward till the pin eye lines up to the actuator pin without any tension, tighten everything back down. hopefully that will cure it cause everything else requires dropping the pan.
one question, did it work when you bought the car, or has it always had this issue?
if it was like this when you bought the car, you bought someone else's problem. its fixable , the 2004r can be disassembled and repaired without 'special tools' , but its not a quick fix.

It was like this when I bought it. I don't know much about its history so far as I bought it from a fellow who bought it at an estate sale just to flip it. He put a shifter cable on it before I got to it, so the cable is new. I'll work with it some more once I can get it on a lift. It is hard to accomplish much scooting around it in the driveway. Thanks for your help with this!

Does a 200R4 use the old 350TH flex plate? Thinking about putting it in my 80 and selling or parting out the 77.
