Header problem
I have a 74 and put shorties on my Vortec heads. About every 3rd trip the bolts are loose. There is a very very tight fit at the bend and bolt head. We have tried several fixes with no success. I saw set of ARP header washers, they are about the only thing I haven't tried. Anyone else having a problem with header bolts coming loose and have a solution. The headers are McJacks, ceramic coated, terrific header and customer service. Jack has been working with me on the problem. So far no solution, but the nice thing is he didn't take my money and forget me... I've been building the car for a yr this month. Somehow there was a crack in one of the headers - this was about 8 months into the build. After some very civil discussion he sent me a new set free and took back the cracked set. To me that is GREAT customer service...
Advantages of ceramic coated vs painted? Are they worth twice the cost? Hooker vs Hedman? Anything else I need to know?
Thanks for help.
I have Hedman 68300 headers that I had ceramic coated locally. The temperature is definately lower after the coating process. The fit is good as I didn't have any interference problems even with Dart Pro 1 heads. As others have mentioned the coating should last a very long time, should prevent or at least slow down the rust on the headers.
I have Hedman headers that I sent to Jet-Hot when I bought them new, and had them ceramic coat them inside and out. Jet-Hot warranties them for life against corrosion. 12 years now and they still have the same shine to them.

If anyone can help let me know - thanks Len
I have a 74 with headers and ARP bolts. They tend to come loose once in a while (especially the exhaust ports by 4 and 6th cylinder but since I've tightened the bolts after engine was hot, I've not had it come loose in last 2 months.
I have Hedmans 68300 and like them. Mine are painted but if I had the $$ would go Ceramic coating. Have had them on since '98 with just paint and no rust problems. Some paint flaking off, but not bad for 15 years on the car.
I have the Hedmans 68308. They are ceramic coated on the outside only....I used Eastwood internal exhaust spray to coat the inside. While searching Hedmans were the cheapest ceramic coated long tubes I could find.
Have yet to see how long they last, just went on this winter.
Thanks for the post guys. Summit Racing has a set of Hooker competition 2456-1hkr for $416 with no shipping cost. Silver ceramic coated, full length 1 5/8 diameter. Thinking about going that direction.
I bought the hooker headers for my 71 and they fit perfectly. They seem to be made of heavier metal than some other brands. I didn't get the ceramic. I just got the painted ones and wrapped them.

Forgot to mention, the Hedmans also have a thicker flange than some other brands
