Speedometer/odometer 76
Just ordered the manuals. Can't wait to find out. Are speed and mileage both run off one cable or two? Neither works and the needle is just a stubby. What would break it off.

One cable runs both. IT's all geared internally. Needle breaking off can be a number of things. One possibility is the speedo locked up and the needle hit the stop.

If the cable breaks or sticks the needle will bounce or do nothing. sounds like you need a cable and a speedometer assembly. Plenty around and our supporting vendors have them, too. Just something else to do...

Needles usually get broke when the speed cup is hit by the first worm magnet. This puts the needle in 1:1 drive with the magnet and it breaks.

I have a 1980 and i was breaking cables every couple of months right where it comes out of the transmission. you never said if you had cruse control, but my problem was the transducer (locks the cruse on) was locking up. Replaced it and fixed the problem. OOPS, your breaking the needle.
