I'm thinking of getting an Indy type front spoiler for the Vert. 2 questions....will it help keep the engine cooler by funneling more air up to the radiator? AND which is the better style..1-piece or 3-piece. Either way, I'm going to have it professionally installed and painted so it will look like "it belongs there" as oposed to an "add-on piece".
I have a 79 that had the small spoiler on it when I got it. Adding the 3pc. Indy spoiler helped a lot with hwy speed cooling. The 79's came with the 3pc. so that's why I went with it.
when i got my 79 corvette it had the 3 piece pace car style spoiler, but the center piece had been damaged from bumping into curbs. i was gonna order just a new centerpiece, but since one of the side pieces had a damaged mounting tab i decided to order all three pieces from Mid America Corvette. when i got it the side pieces were not like the factory side pieces and would have required drilling new holes. i decided to just use the center piece and still have the end pieces sitting in the corner of the garage and actually may have chucked them already. i would try to find a factory front spoiler at a swap meet before i went with an aftermarket one. maybe another vender has a higher quality spoiler than the one i got from mid america. i have seen the one piece spoiler on some vettes at the local car shows.

The 3-piece PC dam includes an integrated rad isolator, unlike any aftermarket "Indy" style dams I've seen. Without adding one, any front dam is mostly bling. Also, IMCO anytime you install a front dam you should install a complimentary rear spoiler to keep your car balanced, both visually and aerodynamically. The PC aero package isn't merely cosmetic, as it serves to improve CF by ~15% and pretty much eliminate lift on the '78-79 C3, with the side benefit being better air flow thru the radiator. But, if you plan on doing very much in the way of high-speed "touring" with the PC kit, be aware that you'll likely need to consider doing something more than simply installing that front dam by the numbers. Ask me how I know...
