Default RE : 76 - Outside mirror question

Purchased new "large head" mirrors for my 76. The right side came with two rubber grommets with screws and the left side didn't. When I looked for the left side rubber grommets with Zip and Ecklers they only offer the right hand side. Was the left side mirror mounted differently?

The mounting holes on the left hand side a stripped from a previous owner and a hole was drilled to fit a rubber grommet.. Trying to figure it out w/o sending the car to a body shop.

I believe there is a threaded plate under the door skin on the left side to mount the mirror. There was not an option for a right side mirror on the 76 so any right side mirror is an aftermarket piece. The 2 grommets for the right side are called well nuts. You can get the well nuts at Lowes in one of the special pull drawer items in the hardware section. My 76 was the same but the left side was not stripped, I just added the right side mirror. Hope this helps.

I used hollow door anchors to get rid of the mirror vibration mess, bout $3.00 at most hardware stores
