Throwout Bearing Help - ASAP!!!
It's been a long time since I've changed a throwout bearing.
Please look at these pictures. Is the bearing installed correctly?
Thanks!

No, it is not. The spring clip ends on the clutch fork should be under the t/o bearing flange.

No it's not...the ears on the clutch fork should be inside the groove on the bearing

Does not look installed correctly by the way it looks. The throwout arm/lever needs to fit into the grooves of the bearing itself.
But it just might be just the way the pictures look.

You can install it the way you have it in the pic, but it makes a wierd popping & grinding sound when you depress the clutch pedal. The pedal is also super spongy.
Don't ask me how I know this :nono:

Re: Throwout Bearing Help - ASAP!!! (71coupe)
That's the sound it was making before I changed it. I think the old one was installed that way when I took it out. I'm not 100% positive of that but I did look at it when I removed it. I'm hoping that it was installed wrong the first time as it gives a reason for the early failure of the bearing.
It doesn't make any noise anymore!

Re: Throwout Bearing Help - ASAP!!! (71coupe)
Mine does that and I am pretty sure I put it in correctly. Thing is a 'buddy' told me not to put lubricant on the pressure plate splines or throw out bearing cuz it will get on the disk and cause major slippage. Could this be causing the hard grinding feeling? Funny thing is it is Ok until it gets warm then gets worse and worse.
Thanks

You'd be suprised the noises you get used to over time. Then, one day, someone rides in you car and says: "Dude, what the f__k is that noise?"
