Default 1969 corvette rear possible play

I just bought a 1969 corvette and in the air I can move both back tires sideways and watch the splines in the rear move in and out a little. Is this normal? If not what is the problem?

There should be very little if any noticeable movement. Either the C clip is off the stub axle shaft or the rear end has a lot of wear and really needs attention before something breaks dramatically. Time to tear it down and start spending money like the rest of us.

Probably more than half the C2/C3 Corvettes on the road have a similar condition to yours. The owners drive for years completely unaware as it makes no real difference in everyday driving. It's only when the car is up in the air with someone poking around are such things found.

Whether you wish to repair it or not is purely an economic issue, nothing to do with safety or catastrophic failure.

This topic gets thrashed regularly, might want to do a search.

As long as the clips are still on the yoke ends. If a clip has actually fallen off, you have troubles.

Default play in rear end

So it sounds like I should not worry about it.
