Fixing problems caused by Bubba on restoration. Car starts just fine but when key is turned off it continues to run. I can unhook wire from coil marked on coil at Bat+ and it shuts off. I have checked schematics provided by member on this forum and feel I have missed something at key switch connector. Any ideas? Thanks.
Try this, start it, turn it off and then unhook the alternator 2 wire plug and see if it dies. I've seen the 2 wires in the alternator plug reversed and cause this.
When this happened to me it was in the starter solenoid...
I had a heck of a time finding it. I had an intermittent short inside the solenoid wiring and I'd had this electrical draw for ages that I could not locate. Then, suddenly last year, the car would not turn off with the key. I trouble shot the ignition switch, and when the car kept running even I unplugged it, I figured the flaw was elsewhere. By this time I was thinking that this was related to my previously identified amperage draw with the car off. SO, I hooked up my ammeter and started wiggling the wires all over the place......once I got in the starter area it became obvious that something was going on there. I replaced the starter and the solenoid (lifetime warranty) and it's all good.
Found issue. Bubba installed toggle switch between ignition and coil. When I cut out all of his splices when redoing wiring I did not tie coil back into ignition system so coil had 12 volts continuously.
