Hello. I bought a replacement coax cable for a 1980 corvette. The cable is nothing like the one on the car. The coax on the car has a nut at the antenna end to secure the coax to the antenna tube. The new one is just a plug (female end). The new one is advertised as a replacement for 1980 corvette power antenna. I cannot see how it will possibly work.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this problem or know where I could get the correct coax? Thanks for any help.
sure the old nut doesnt just slide all the off the old cable and then on to the new one.
i am not sure but i think the power antenna coax and the reg. antenna coax were different on the ends.

That is what I was hoping. No. The "hole" in the nut is too small to slide on either end of the coax. Also, on the new coax, the connection (female) on the antenna end is about 1 inch deep. The male end on the antenna is only about 1/2 inch long. Any ideas?
Thanks.
There is a difference in the two cables, but, I ordered the replacement cable for the power antenna. I received what I ordered and it says on the packaging that it is for the power antenna. I will speak with tech support tomorrow where I ordered the cable.
I thought I would throw it out here for any ideas. I appreciate your response. There is much knowledge on this board.
No, my cable just has a "female end connection" on the antenna end. There is a nut that slides on the cable which you thread onto the side of the antenna tube to secure the connection.
I have looked on many websites that sell corvette parts and have found nothing that looks like my cable. The male end that the nut screws onto is located on the side of the antenna tube.
maybe need this

That looks right. I'm just wondering about the length (30"). That seems short, but, I am going to measure. Thank you very much. First time I've seen one with the nut on the cable.
you're right i believe most of them are about 140" or so. i looked at mine, oem 79 with power antenna and it has the nut on the cable. and screws directly onto the tube of the antenna. mine looks like this one. http://www.volvette.com/AN25C.html

Yes, that is it. All I need is the coax, though. I have the wiring, bracket etc. I wonder if I can buy the coax only. It's hard to believe I can't find this part anywhere. All I really need is the connector at the antenna end of the coax. Mine looks bad.
Thanks for all your help. I appreciate all you have told me.
If the cable you received has a female end that the male end can plug into you have an extension cable. Some of the aftermarket power antennas had a short male lead on them, that the extension cable plugged onto to span the area between the rear mounted antenna and the radio.
No, the one I received is long enough. It has the wrong female connector on the antenna end. I called where I bought it and was told they did not carry the correct cable.
I think the correct cable is shown in speedreed8's last post above. Now I need to find one.
