Re: Removable hardtop for convertible.......... (63Banshee)
Up here in Canada eh, when it gets a we bit cooler and the white stuff flies we just put on our toques and turn the a/c down a bit. Well that's how we do it eh.
I just bought a hardtop for my "75, my rear deck doesn't have the center hole and really don't want to drill one. My question is...wouldn't the rear studs that hold down the soft top along with the front locks hold the top down? Are the side bolts and center bolt there mostly for anti-theft?
I use the 3 up front and the 2 that are for the soft top only and it is no problem while driving, but like what was said above, if it rains or you are washing it, it will leak a little if you dont have the center bolt to compress the weatherstripping in the middle.
my 71 is a two top car. the hard top is heavy, and in my opi a real pain to put on and take off. we put it on one time to take pictures and its been covered in the shop ever sence. it has chrome tips and the center peg. the one time it was on, the car never moved and you could tell if it was not secured very tightly it would scratch the paint. i'm just not willing to take the chance. in texas we don't need no stinking hard top, i hate even putting the vert top up. robert
I just bought a 1968 and am willing to deal with the challenges of having a removable top. Are you interested in selling your top? PM: rickmendoza@comcast.net
God Bless,
rick

What is the build date of your car? Chrome corners or no? What plant was it built in?

Rick: post a Want To Buy in the Parts for Sale forum. Your chances of find a top in an eleven year old thread are slim.
I have an early '69, factory two top car (vin 12094, 20,500 actual miles). Has painted body color protector tips on the rear fins, and no center peg hole. As stated by others, it has never been on the car, to my knowledge. I may add the convert. top attaching pins this winter because I have nothing else to do to the car.
If you're interested in selling the top I'm interested in buying. What is the color. I'm down in Colorado Springs and if the tops in Lafayette thats a local pick up to me. Love to see a 20K early c3.
If you don't want to sell, I understand, but if you do let me know. PM:rickmendoza@comcast.net
Sure, Rick, if you are in the north Denver area anytime, I would love to show you the top and the car. The car is red, but not a Corvette red. It is Audi red, and I am not sure how close that is to your car.
Broncos play in the afternoon so might be to late to come up after the game. Monday is a Holiday so if you're going to be around maybe I could drive up.
I'll give you a call after Church.
God Bless,
rick

Or, sell it to Rick.
Ralph.
Guys I went and visited Ralph this last Sat. to see his '69 L-71 427ci, 435 hp, with 20,620 miles on it. He has had it for 20 yrs, frame off restoration with everything stock that he enhanced. It's for sale and you don't just get the vette but amazingly you get all the original parts should you want them. It's out of my price range, but probably no another on the planet like this. Anyone looking for a special C3, Ralph has it!
