Default Carb perfomance question

OK, looking for some inputs. I have a 1406 Edlebrock carb. Standard setup (set for sea lvl) with Primary jets being .098 and secondary's .095. With this setup, the car drove fine but it seemed like it could give more in regards to performance. Now, in line with the manual, I put .095 jets in primaries and .086 in secondary's as I am at 4300 ft above sea lvl. It now hesitates when I moderately take off from a stop. It will hesitate twice. Once on initial go and then again at about 10-15 mph. anything under 40 mph, it will hesitate under mild acceleration. It seems to accelerate better at highway speeds than before and if I accelerate hard, there are no hesitation issues but performance from a stop seems unchanged from old jet settings. So my question is, should I just put the old jets back on and be done with it, or press on and try to fine tune the carb for better results?

where did you get that rejetting information, seems like you made a much larger drop on the secondary in proportion to the primary ?

It's my understanding with edelbrocks you can do quite a bit with rods, as you can change both the cruise and power tip. With QJets, as long as you stay with the same style rod (M vs k/j/b/etc) the power tip remains the same, so rods only affect cruise and transition from cruise to WOT. It sounds from your description that you went too lean on the primary circuit. I'm assuming you're not engaging the secondaries in this scenario(accelerating from a stop) so they should be OK.

Are your rods standard as well?

Mel- you are correct and I was mistaken. I installed .089 jets. not .086.
Shark- I have not swapped out rods. The stock ones are installed.
If I start changing rods/springs which would be the next logical step, will performance gains be worth $$ I spend? Or are gains minimal and putting stock jets back on be the smart decision? This car is not for racing, I enjoy just cruising. Of course, it is a sports car so if I can get some more pep through some simple tuning, I am interested. Also, I plan on swapping the engine out later so if gains are minimal on this carb/engine combo, I would rather invest the time/money on the next set up.

Doesn't the $44 tuning kit on eBay include rods as well? I will have to look into this as well as I have the 1405 on my new build.

download the owners manual from edelbrock's web site. it has charts detailing which jets and rods to use. i set up a 1406 on my 350 using that info with very good results.
