Hey guys, I am looking at a 1978 vette with a manual transmission. I plan to check the VIN and see if this is a numbers matching car. Where on the transmission would I find the serial number?
Anything else I should be checking for on the car? It's in very nice shape and I can get it for $7000. That seems like a fair price to me for a daily driver.

The L82 came with a Borg Warner and The assembly date code is stamped on a boss located on the left side (driver’s side) of the maincase and to the rear of the sidecover and below it. (see Figure 6) The format is R 8 H 01 where R= Muncie plant, 8= Model year, H= Month (June), and 01= Day of the week
An L48 would have had a cast iron Muncie and its VIN derivative and date code were stamped in two separate locations. In contrast the B/W vehicle identification number (VIN) derivative and date code are on the same pad surface. The VIN derivative was located on the main case boss at the top. The assembly date code stamped on a boss is located on the left side (driver’s side) of the maincase, to the rear of the sidecover and below it. The format is R 8 H 01 where:

• 8 = Model year
• H = Month – June
• 01 = Day of the week
