Default What is this carb throttle linkage?

There are two cables attaching to the throttle, the one on the right is the cruise control I believe. What is the indicated one for exactly?

It is not currently tight, but it does pull out when the throttle is engaged, and spring returns when the throttle is released, but there is play when it is not engaged and I'm just wondering if it is ment to be that way, or if it was just a handyman fix that has come loose.

I know it goes down... but not sure to where yet, just noticed it was loose tonight.

Here is a picture of it when the carb was off, so it is not connected obviously but it shows well the place where it currently routes through

automatic transmission, downshift cable. should go down to the transmission and enter on the passenger side towards the front. when the carburetor throttle is opened enough it pulls the cable and downshifts the transmission to 2nd gear. also known as kickdown cable.

It's fine that it slides as long as it pulls when the throttle opens and returns fully after then?

That is the kickdown for a TH350, or properly called "detent cable". It should be adjusted so the carb is about 1/2 way open before it gets enough movement to force the downshift. The feel is kind of your call, but you don't want normal cruise throttle pressure to be holding it right on the edge of a downshift. Easy to adjust- the cable bracket where the cable comes thru it- on the cable the black plastic has either a metal tab or a slider to release the cable housing so you can slide it in or out.

Excellent, thanks for the info guys! I don't know much about the car yet and am still getting acquainted. It's older than I am and I don't have the service manual yet, so I'm utilizing the combined member wealth of knowledge here!

You'll be hearing from me a lot over the next few months and years as I work on our new toy.
