OK, wiring appears to be fine. I unplugged the relay (behind passenger seat in cargo area) and it stopped the humming noise (power to antenna). Guess my next step is to replace the relay. However, it comes all wired up. Can I just cut and splice the new relay to the existing wires going to the antenna? Looks like a real chore to pull out and replace all the old wiring. Thanks much..
I replaced the mast in my 1981 Vette power antenna. Pain in the butt getting to it but removed it and replaced antenna mast and reinstalled. It worked but with a 15-20 second pause before raising or lowering. Next day my battery was dead. I hear a constant low humming noise coming from the antenna motor when charging the battery and it must be draining my battery. Thought I wired it back the same way but must have screwed it up. Can anyone help with a wiring diagram or description on how the 1981 power antenna should be wired? Thanks

grey wire from antenna motor (up) to relay.

I don't like modifying new components either. Surely there is someone on here who has been thru this and has the answer to "the best way" to go about this.
If there is anything else I can look up f/ you in the GM manual, just let me know, I'd be glad to do it. The manual, '81 GM Corvette Shop Manual," was bought f/ 10 dollars w/ the car new, an offer in the Corvette owners manual. I'm second owner of my 'Vette, and since my father-in-law, the original owner, wasn't a "wrench turner," the manual is in good order and non-greasy. LOL! You may want to look into getting one of these manuals from the parts dept. at the Chevy dealer. Although they're expensive when not bought w/ the car, they do contain a lot of good info, the best manual I've ever had f/ a vehicle. But like I said, you can, anytime, give me a yell, and I'll give you any and all the info you need from the manual. Again, I'm glad I can help. Sincerely.
