so i was driving my to cousins house yesterday, from Yorktown Va to his house in Alexandria Va. i was going about 80mph in 5th gear in my TKO500 and it wanted to run 200degrees, that seems very hot to me, im used to running 170ish on the interstate, but it was also 99 degrees here yesterday, it kinda worried me. any tricks to helping this out, i have a new lower spoiler on order, mine has a small split in the plastic in the middle, idk if that is causing it to fold at high speeds, i also have a new radiator seal kit coming, as soon as i got off and came to stop and go traffic it dropped to 160 degrees, so its only when im at higher speeds, mainly 80+. i was also looking at gutting the hood cowl, not the seal against the firewall just the small rectangle piece in the cowl, would this help or would it push air into the engine bay?
200* when it's that hot out really doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I wouldn't wory too much about it if it runs fine any other time.
Don't forget that with an overdrive, even tho you are lowering the rpm's you are putting more of a load on the engine pulling hills, so that may contribute to more heat.
Another thing to remember, if it was 99* out, it was probably 110* on the interstate!!! All things considered, I think your car is doing fine under those conditions!!!
ok, and also i have to keep reminding myself that its reading the coolent temp from between the exhaust runners, so its the highest temp that the engine is getting.
