Default Ignition Switch

My ignition switch is dead. How do I go about getting to it? In the assembly manual it appears as though it is put in through the side of the column and locks into place. Do I have to start going through the steering column or is there an easier way? Thanks.

Yep- you have to go into the column. Jim Shea has very detailed procedures for this. They are located at http://www.corvettefaq.com under steering I think.

No need to go into the column, the ignition switch is located on top of the column inside the brake pedal support. Lower the column from the dash to give yourself some elbow room. One screw holds it in...If I remember right put the key in the off-unlocked position for easy relay rod removal...easy fix

Thank you both fellas. The car runs now, and since replacing the blackened spark plugs and fuel filter, it runs well too!

Tomorrow I start on the fro9nt springs :)
