Lucky enough to see The Who several times....(Winterland S.F.) Also with his other band John Entwhistle's Train (remember that far back?)
This guy changed the way people play the bass today... and most of them will never even realize it. The Who have cancelled Vegas appearances through July 1st so far.
Re: OT Goodbye John Entwhistle (KENS78SILVERANNIV)
I guess I am too young to appreciate The Who as well, or to have seen them in their glory days, but I have and cherish most of John Entwistle's albums on vinyl.
Weds night in Las Vegas. Died in his sleep. No official cause yet that I heard but may have been heart related since he had a history of heart problems. The Who is one of my all time favorites and I mourned the lose. They are/were supposed to play Detroit but I think it will be cancelled. Now I will probably never see them live.
The Who were rock n roll in the late 60's to '78, they were my favourite band, I am glad that I saw them on 2 different ocassions. When they played Toronto in 1980, John would walk around outside of the stadium and talk to concert goers. Another icon gone, Long Live Rock! and here's to Boris the Spider....
I always liked The Who, but I never saw them play Live. I had a chance once, but as Keith Moon wasn't with them I thought that it wouldn't be the same, so didn't. Another one of Life's regrets :(
:cry :cry :cry :cry Being a bass man, he was one of my favorites. I have all their LP's. "Live at Leeds" is the best... Is it true that Pete Townsen is almost deaf?? I can understand why...standing in front of a wall of Marshalls all those years....

I saw the Who in concert when I was 16 years old in 1981.
I sat at the base of speakers that were stacked close to 100 feet in the air.
Unbeliveable concert.
I could not hear for 3 days.
I was very sad to hear this and it makes me think of how old I'm getting.
Definately. And "Magic Bus" is the best track on it. When I was young there was a school trip to see that concert, but I was in a "Year" that was considered too young to go on it :mad

I saw the Who in the very early 70's. It was John Entwhistle's playing that inspired me to play the bass guitar - I heard this , this morning on NPR - very sad day :cry
It's a total bummer :cry I have tickets to the 4th of July show here in NorCal. Just souvenirs now... I'm kind of partial to 'Tommy' myself, but 'Live at Leed' is awesome as well. Reminds me of when we lost Stevie Ray a few years back. Rock on John.
My favourite rock album (although a committed Stones fan!) is Live at Leeds. Best live album by anyone IMHO. Saw them only once (summer of '89 at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park NY. That was one of their "farewell tours". Even when no drugs involved, it's amazing how rock stars don't seem to live very long.....
I heard the news yesterday when I was coming home under a heavy rain. As a huge fan, and someone who spent years of his life as a bass player wannabe, all I can say is
I was lucky enough to see The Who a couple of years ago, at the Tweetercenter. It surely was one of the best concerts of my life, and I had the impression that those guys are like wine: the older the better! Thought I'd have the chance to see them again....
The first and only time I blew out a set of home speakers was listening to "Won't get fooled again" Ahhhh was'nt being young and stupid fun!
Goodbye John, We will miss you... :blueangel:
