Door hold open spring replacement

Just replaced my door hold open spring following directions from members including Willcox. It was easy and quick. Thanks for the help.

I've tried for 2 days to get mine on. Cannot get the spring in the upper and lower notches at the same time. I wonder if something is broken on my hinge???

Where did you get the spring... some on the market are not cut correct and they will hit the hinge before you can get the slot in place.

Watched the video several times.....looks pretty simple with the door off the hinges. Not much room to work with when they are on the car. Anyhow, I put the hinge in position and get the top end into both slots, push it all the way down and try to line up the bottom slot but it will not slide in to the bottom slot without coming out of the upper slot. Will try again tonight....

Make sure the edge of the spring isn't hitting the hinge.. if it is, then you can cut it off.

You'll know because you won't be able to slide the spring in place to twist or knock upwards. I believe the I gave the measurement of the spring to check with in the video. If it's loner than the measurement, cut it off and try again.

Are you using a tool shaped like a bent screwdriver to install? I have two photos I copied off the web that are very helpful ( I thought they were from Willcox ) Anyhow, I could email or fax them to you. I can't find where I got them from.
