On my L82 there was a vacuum line coming from the front of the quadrajet to a vacuum canister under the left front fender.
What does this line do?
Do I need it?
I'd like to just plug it and forget it.
I don't need another line to the new Holley.
Please advise.
The line is for vacuum to purge the charcol cannister of gas fumes. They are collected there as the car runs and when shut down. It DOES NOT hinder performance and is used in conjunction with the PCV line. Clean your filter on the bottom of the cannister and use it.
What is the basic method of removing the filter in the bottom of the canister? Does it slide out, unscrew, un-snap...and clean it with air, water..?
This is a new concept, but with this car, there may not even be one in there!
Where to hook up. As far a I know the cannister uses manifold vacuum so use a port with manifold vs ported.
The cannister filter is on the bottom of the can. Take off the access plate under the car. The cannister is held with a band clamp. Take it out and clean it out. The filter is the a circular piece about 4" across. I think NAPA carries them or you could make one out of HVAC 1/4" filter material.
Ken, another thought here is you can "T" it into the PCV valve line. If you've ever seen a stock '71-'73, this line(from canister) "tee's" into the PCV line, making one less hook up to the carb.
