After over a year of vibration fixing my vibration from hell on my 71 is finally gone!
It had the damned vib when I bought it.
I changed the tires and one rim.
Got an alignment.
New u-joints.
All new front end parts.
New yokes and rear bearings.
Got an alignment.
Still had the damned vibration!
Then after I bought and finished (well almost) the 69, I found a new alignment shop and had the 69 aligned. The guy knows his shiat so I decided what the hell and brought the vibration ridden 71 to him.
Just picked it up - NO MORE VIB!!!!! :D :D :D
Lesson learned - MAKE SURE YOUR ALIGNMENT SHOP KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. I knew he knew his shiat immediately when the first question he asked was "Does it have slotted shims or the ones with just a hole in them. I think they ran the hole type until 72 but it would be alot easier and cheaper to go with the slotted ones."
I'm not sure which adjustment he made. But it was certainly in the REAR alignment. He said it was out of spec quite a bit. He had to re shim it to a fifferent position so I'm thinking the rear toe-in was the culprit.
Good to hear that Larry. I finally found a good alignment shop here and used them last week. It cost $200 but he spent 2 hours on it. The bad thing was he found the lower ball joints are just about shot! These only have about 20k miles on them and were purchased from NAPA. Next time I'll use MOOG's. I have a slight vibration in the car around 60 mph but it's much better then before- of course I just rebuild the rear suspesion too :smash:

I think it's great when we can locate someone who knows what's going on. He had my car for about 3 days but I'm not sure how much actual work time was spent on it. Kinda of one of those "bring it down and I'll squeeze it in while I can" things. In any event he only cahrged me 60 bucks. Very cheap vibration elimination!
I hope the front end rebuild works out alright. At least you know it's easier than the rear end!
