Default Another paint progress update & question

Hey guys,

I started wet sanding last night after it cooled off. I have gotten about 65% of the car smoothed and slicked out . From what I can tell I did a pretty good job at getting all of the body panels straight and smooth. I hope to finish wet sanding tonight. My question is, I don't plan on spraying color on until next week. How long can I wait before spraying color once I have finished wet sanding? Also when I do shoot the base what do I do if I get a run in it? So far I have done pretty good with the primer and having only one run to smooth out. With the base do I sand the run out then shoot base on that spot again and then clear the whole car?

What product are you using. With PPG BC/CC you have to mess up bad for the base to run, now the clear is a different story. Check with your supplier, mine told me the base could be shot anytime after the primer, just degrease, tack, and shoot.

It is PPG and I beleive the name of the line is DBC? I am picking it up next Monday. From what I understand if the clear runs just wait till it driest and then wet sand and buff. That is after all of the cc are applied. Also is it true that you need to wet sand and buff within a certain time frame of finishing?

A week should be okay. Much longer and I'd suggest a quick wipe off with degreaser, wet sand agian (since it's smooth it goes very fast to just scuff it a little) and then tack rag a shoot the base. Your right on tract with the base. If you get any runs or bugs get in and decide to land in wet paint. Sand the area and hit it again with a little more base before you clear.

I'm still waiting on those pictures. :D :D

Not to my knowledge. Just wait at least 24 - 48 hours. You want to make sure the clear has had a chance to cure. Talk to your supplier when you pick up the paint. I waited 4 days on my nose before I buffed. I even wet sanded the back deck on my car after I removed the luggage rack and buffed it back to a shine and that paint is 19 years old.

Thats what I used Wade. So you shot some k-36 or did you just seal? I was in your same shoes this time last year. I enjoyed everything but the sanding. :yesnod:

I went the whole route. Stripped, dp sealed, K36, blocked, k36, wet sand. Now I am scarred to death about the next stage  :yesnod:

It is intimidating! But enjoy the next phase. Putting color on it makes everything you've done so far so rewarding. After the first coat of color, you'll be so excited!

The color and clear are easier and more fun than primer IMO. Just make sure you have enough light and keep the color coat as smooth as you can.

Wade, don't worry yourself to death. I could barely sleep the night that my car was painted. I was worried about contamination in the primer, sand scratches, etc. When I went out the next day to see it, all my fears were put to rest. You know that you've done a great job, so just keep up the good work and you'll reap the benefits.
