Default New c3 corvette and build!

Well as some of you know I got in an ugly situation last time with my vette, I was getting an insurance check within a month of accident. I had time to think of what I wanted to do with the money. Im sticking with a c3 corvette. They just look too good

So im getting a black corvette with restored black interior. All new american racing rims and new tires. New rear axle and whole new suspension, audio system also.

Im getting it for dirt cheap from a guy I know because he wants some dune buggy for 3600 so thats what he is gonna take for the corvette from me! He wanted 6k

Gives me alot of money left over. It only has 60k miles on it and its an l48 so I know Im gonna want more power.

Im going to order this weiland 142 kit but my question is. What else will I need? Every part. This car can sit for a month if need be because I just finished my 18psi turbo build on my other car

here is the link!
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wn...ette/year/1976

I get it the 11th! Cant wait! going to St. Louis to pick it up

Also already have an exhaust and headers. With a 262 cam and 2101 performer intake manifold, felpro gasket top end kit, new oem rocker arms, new timing chain, lifters, and a recurve kit. All of this will be going on it at the same time.

Except intake manifold lol. So let me know!

What im guessing Ill need is an
air filter
air filter scoop for it
boost gauge
fuel pressure gauge

I would think you'd need a new engine. the L48 isn't going to be able to take too much boost for too long

The cast pistons of an L-48 are dangerous with a blower. They will be fine until you see a little detonation and that is it. If everything is dialed in PERFECTLY, and you run it out of the box at 5 psi, you'll be alright.

However, DIALED IN PERFECTLY is the key. Keep the timing very moderate, and never let it go lean. That 262 cam is not the greatest, duration looks OK, but the 110 lobe separation should be 112-114 for these little blowers. Also, that 650 is going to be too small. Some say that you almost can't over carb. a blower, but I would run at least a 750. Your 87 octane is not gonna cut it. An 8.5:1 motor with 5psi boost has an effective compression ratio of about 11.4:1. Remember above about detonation?

Do your homework. These mini blowers can be fun and reliable, and CAN work on some basic motors, but you have to know your limits.

I would run 5. Some something fun and small.

So run a 750. Got It

What gas shoukd I run? I have access to everything as I run 110 race gas on turbo daily sometimes

I would have a shop do the tune and jet the carb. I will tell them I want it very rich.

Also add and an a/f ratio gauge too

Now the only problem with it is a power steering pump hose (suspected) if it isnt that whats the most expensive part of power steering to get fixed and how much?

Im getting it for a steal fyi just want to know how much.

Personally I can't stand the look of those blowers, and how much gain at 5 psi ? I know someone who was so excited about putting one on, in the end he took it off, think hard about it, the money spent on the blower and accessories you are half way there to a nice N/A motor.

Yea all I need is heads and I cant get too 300rwhp projected.

I was building an n/a engine on my last corvette

Any thoughts on the power steering issue? And will it be fine for a 3 hour drive? With breaks every hour.

A "blow through" carb? Doesn't the carb sit on top of that blower?

I agree with MotorHead, you're asking for trouble with that blower. The carb/air cleaner will certainly have to stick up through a hole in the hood. Butt ugly!

And with the kind of questions you're asking it is obvious you're not an expert at this kind of thing. If your tuner makes a mistake and you grenade the motor, then where are you? SOL, because the tuner surely isn't going to give you a new one.

Crawl, walk, then run.

Gotcha! Ill just buy my heads to complete my top end on and throw it in.

Can anyone answer my question on the Worst case scenario for power steering fix? And is it fine to drive?

I only know Botgeson p/s which only has two hoses. A pressure hose, and a return that just has a hose clamp at the pump. You would have four hoses, give or take? A leak in any will pour out all your p/s fluid pronto and with a dry pump it will be destroyed. If you can safely steer it with no power assist, remove the p/s belt, otherwise, replace the leaking hose.

You probably won't find the hose you need at a local auto parts store. Jobs like that that we estimate to take an hour can last all day. You had better find out from your buddy EXACTLY what is wrong and plan accordingly.

Use the search function on this forum to find power steering problems. Learn all you can. The average car mechanic probably hasn't seen a p/s system like that on an older Corvette so you can't expect to drive in just any garage and find somebody who can find the parts and fix it.

Good luck,
Pete
