Wiper motor SUPER HOT
So I'm changed my distributor cap and rotor, and my car won't fire up. But that's not my (only) issue. As I'm turning the motor, I noticed I felt some serious heat from my wiper motor. I took the plastic cover off and HOLY ****, that thing is HOT!!! Why? Last I tried to use it (the wipers) they didn't even work. What can I do to make sure it doesn't burn my car to the ground?

Have you worked on the starter lately?
If so make sure the large black wire is connected to a starter or bell housing bolt and NOT connected to the battery terminal on the solenoid.

Nope. Haven't touched it. I'll check it out.

Any chance you switched the hot lead to the distributor and the ground lead to the wiper motor? Should not be possible with stock connectors....but just a thought.

I don't have the stock connectors for my distributor, but I hadn't messed with the wiper EVER. I did disconnect the ground and hot wire from it just to be safe. I might remove the motor and wipers since she is a fair weather car only now...not a dd like she was when I was 18!

If I were you, until I got this figured out, I think I would disconnect the battery when I wasn't around the car. You are right to be concerned...

It is!
I have a quick disconnect because I do have a drain somewhere.

Good question! Haven't removed the fuse, but good call. I'll check!

You might want to make sure that the connectors at the wiper switch and the wiper motor are on correctly.
On the original problem, did you get it to start?

Engine is running. Idle is a little low I think (400-550 rpm). Once nice and warmed up, it is still dying.
I have a new fuel pump to put in this week to see if that helps. Might have to wait and order new hoses if the parts store doesn't have them though.
