It was leaking. So I ordered the rebuilt unit with a $75 core charge. It took about an hour because separating the tapered ball joint was a PITA using a fork and hammer. It would have been a breeze with an air hammer.
I just turn the wheel to full right lock for the job.
Did you need to balance it or was it pre-set when you got it?
(I rebuilt mine over the winter and was looking for some way of setting it on the bench)

It just worked right out of the box like the last two from Vette Brakes & Products. Not all on my 79.
I filled the power steering pump tank and fired my motor up with the front off the ground. I worked the steering back and forth at about 1500 rpm. then let it idle and if it is misadjusted the front tires would creep right or left. They just sat there........ So all was good. I added some more fluid to the tank and called it done.
I have a 9X11 tranny cooler on the return line to the pump because it gets so hot with big front tires.

Pretty straight forward although I had to look at Jim Shea's documents to see where one chamfered washer went. so I had it apart a few times, get easier each time

The complete rebuild kit is the best thing to use. Then figure on another $15.00 kit from the local auto parts store after you either mangle one of the seals or can't figure out where the chamfered washer goes. Second try usually works.
