I am getting ready to install new bushings and link in my front sway bar. I need to know do I install the links going from the bar to the a arm brackets with the wheels off the ground or with it sitting flat on the ground ? Also, I think I read where when I install the swaybar bushings and tighten up, I should be able to move the bar by hand ?
Im getting ready to tighten mine. Currently I have the car off the ground and the geometry of the sway bar to the Lower Arm is off and will make torquing the links tough. I will wait until I can lower the car a bit and raise the control arms.
And yes, after torquing the sway bar brackets I am able to rotate the bar by hand, I packed grease inside the bushings.
The correct way is to torque all the sway bar bolts with the car at normal ride height. The factory suspension bushings do not slide over the bar like a bearing; they twist. So you want to torque any suspension bushing at the middle of it's travel.

So the fact that my torqued sway bar bushings allow the bar to slide left to right means I need new tighter bushings? Or is this motion allowed?
Factory type rubber bushings are not normally greased. If you are using the rubber bushings, the bar will not swivel loosely in the bushings unless the bushings are worn.
If you are using poly bushings, they need to swivel.
But if the bar is held tightly by the bushings, it's probably going to be fine. Jack up one side of the car and look how the bar looks in the bushings to be sure. If you want to replace them, they're cheap enough.

Bushings are rubber, not sure how old they are but still in pretty good shape. I guess Ill wipe off the grease and see how they hold then. For some reason I remember reading here on the forum to grease the bushings.....
