Default Why did they delete black?

I would like to know why they discontinued Black paint on Corvettes in 1970-1976?
Thank you, Rachel :mad

From what I understand, the black painted cars showed way too much wave in the fiberglass body work. Also, for many of the years, black wasn't ordered that much compared to the other colors.

it was the 70's dude! from what i've heard, they were funky times. orange, yellow and green were cool.

i wondered this too, because black looks very good on a chrome bumper C3. the idea about the flaws makes sense.

I think both Turbo-Jet and KingRat have the correct answers. Though black has always been one of the most popular paints, during that period, other colors were more in "fashion". The most desirable element of black paint is it's ability to show depth. That same attribute also makes it show imperfections. There was a period when GM charged $50 extra for black paint on it's pick ups. Due to the large flat areas on the trucks, they anticipated extra cost to correct flaws at the factory.
