I was given a free Edelbrock performer intake form a guy at work. I went onto the Edelbrock website and was looking at the pics and it looks like the performer RPM (1500-6500rpm)
so the question is 1) will that fit under the hood?
2) do I even want it?
the car is stock as much as I know. I have the heads off because I had a lifter tick and wanted a better look. I have 2 broken lifters.
the cam I am going to use http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-k1103 to keep the drivability and maybe get a little more hp, plus its cheep and I have to buy a few more parts, water pump, radiator, and alternator. so cost is a issue.
There should be a part number on the intake somewhere to know for sure.
Will it fit under the hood? Yes it should with no problem.
Is it worth it? With no other engine changes, there is a small weight savings if you have a cast iron intake, other than that not really. I believe the Edlebrock intakes have both carb bolt patterns, so if you have any thoughts of changing-out the carb that would be a benefit. Performance wise....again, nothing you will feel by the "seat of the pants" dyno.
If it is a Performer RPM I believe it will only take a square bore carb. If you are re-working the heads and bumping up the cam it would be better performer than the iron intake in my opinion. Higher Rise, better flow, lighter weight, no egr! If you have the right carb to match it, go for it!
BTW, If you have a stock L-48 and not shaving the heads or otherwise raising the compression, that CAM may be a little too much! There are wiser engine experts who hopefully will chime in.

If it's a Performer, It should say PERFORMER on it somewhere. If it's a Performer RPM, it should say PERFORMER RPM on it somewhere. There should be a 4 digit part number cast into the underneath of the manifold, look at it and tell us what it is. And Performer RPM intakes are made in spreadbore and squarebore versions. It's very likely that you have a Performer 2101, Edelbrock made about eleventy-seven gazillion of them over the years. I know if I had $159.95 for every Performer 2101 Edelbrock has ever made, I'd be a rich man!
Very roughly, if the manifold is a plain 2101 Performer, that's probably a bit too much cam. The 2101 will fit your car without other modifications.
If it's a Performer RPM, you'll likely be OK, camwise. But you may have hood clearance issues.

You really think that's too much cam for a Performer? It's smaller than a stock L82 cam, which came from the factory with a plain old cast-iron chevy 4-barrel intake manifold for most of it's production. I think it would be just fine, and I'm known among my buddies as being kind of a wuss when it comes to cam timing, especially with automatic transmissions. Of course, the L82 had a little more compression to go with the cam, so you may have a point...I'd try to figure some way to increase compression, maybe have the heads shaved. New heads with 64cc combustion chambers would be ideal. Ask your buddy if he has any of them laying around that he would like to give away, too.
