Default What's it supposed to idle like?

Since just about every other car I've owned has had a rock steady idle, I'm wondering what this engine is supposed to idle like.
The engine is supposed to have a 1969 300hp cam.

A 300 hp cam is just a stock cam as used in a l48, should idle like grandmas Chevy. The 69 350 hp cam will have a little lope, idle steady at 850-875.

It's lopey for sure (you can see it in the video).
Assuming it does have the 300hp cam, where should I start looking to see what's causing the lope?

start with basics, are the points burnt, are the cap and rotor burnt, are the plugs good, are the plug wires not beyond resistance limits, if points good are they set for 30 degrees dwell, is the timing correct, and lastly are the mixture screws and idle speed screw correctly adjusted. After that check for a vacuum leak.

No points -> Pertonix Ignitor 2

Looked ok when I did the TPI swap, I'll check.
are the plugs good, are the plug wires not beyound resistance limits,
Haven't checked either of those, I'll check the plugs this weekend.

TPI swap with Holley EFI, it's taking care of that automatically
After that check for a vacuum leak.
I'll check for those after the plugs, but most of the hoses are newly routed, at least at the engine.

Engine sounds good to me. Your tach needle looks to be jumpy instead.

the tach needle wiggles around more quickly than it would/should with a lopey idle. That was my first impression when I watched the video. Check out the tach and cable.

Engine sounds fine/normal to me. Like others have said, the indication appears to be the problem.

Yep, its a Chevy...valve tap and all and it seems to coincide with the needle jumping. Have you had the valves adjusted?
Other than that is seems ok. If its an auto trans, put it in gear and let us hear it

It's a manual.
I'll check my datalogs, see if it jumps around like the needle. It's entirely possible the tach/cable are the culprit.

Yanked my plugs, to have a look. Two of my spark plug wire boots were dry as a bone. Too close to the exhaust manifold?
