I am unable to remove the oil plug located near my oil filter. I was trying to install a sensor for a new oil temp gauge in my new gauge bezel setup. Would an oil cooler adapter (sandwiched between the filter and the block) serve as a mount for my temperature sensor, just leaving off the cooler lines and radiator?? Seems like a possibility, looking for anyone who has an oil cooler installed.........Thanks!
I wouldn't install it inthe engine block. It should be installed in the pan where it would only pick up the oil temp. The block would probably be cooler, but at the very least it would be inaccurate. You could probably make a loop in and out of the oil cooler adapter. Then put something in that loop to install the sensor into. In the pan would be best though.
I am usint the port behind the manifold (near distributor) for the oil pressure gauge. Can I "T" it off and use this port for both?? If so, what kind of "T"?? Where to get it???
That is the correct place for the oil temp sensor although behind the distributor will do as well. One of my round-to-its is to move this pressure sensor to the latter location so I can install the sensor below at the filter.
The oil pressure sensor (near the filter) shown in my pic is correct for 1979. But beginning with some 1981-82s the clock was moved to the new optional electronic radio system. An oil temperature gauge (shown in my second pic) replaced the clock in the gauge bezel. For some reason GM re-located the pressure sensor to the hole near the distributor and the temp sensor was located at the hole near the oil filter vacated by the pressure sensor. But in fact, with appropriate brass adaptors, either sensor can be located in either hole. I am sure that that is as clear as mud.... ;)
I know that Autometer, VDO should have the brass tee with the correct threads. Try your local hardware or Speed shop.Using the same spot will work no problem.
