I spent several hours today swapping in a new Sony Cassette Deck in place of the factory Delco unit. It was a somewhat a PITA. The original factory unit still works, just doesn't sound as good as the newer unit.
Yeah, I know! Call me Bubba! My question is regarding the factory unit. I'm not 100% sure it is the original radio. There are no Corvette markings or emblems on it. If I didn't know better, I would think it came from a run of the mill GM car. On the other hand, all wiring connections looked stock, as well as the mounting brackets. Is this normal for a 79 unit? Will it fit any GM application for that year?
I am thinking of selling it on eBay. Is it worth anything? How much should I sell it for? I don't plan on ever selling my vette, so I'd rather not keep it.
On the plus side, I took the opportunity, while the dash was apart, to fix my dash lights and other little gremlins that I've had. Most of my problems came from the fragile circuit board in back.
i think some of the vette radios were just gm radios, dont no what years. but dont sell it . you may want it when or if you sell the car[new owner may want factory look]i also changed radio and speakers ,much better sound
mounting brackets? there weren't any mounting brackets with the 79s.
This bracket was located on the passenger side, toward the rear of the radio, to support the rear of the radio. Otherwise, the plastic bezel would have to take the full weight of the radio. It could have been the doings of someone else and not a factory job.
Corvette and other GM radios from that time period look similar except
the corvette radios have black push buttons for the preset radio stations.
Other GM radios have chrome push buttons.
The inner ***** for balance and tone are also different on the corvette
radios. They have a handle that sticks up above the rest of the **** so
you can turn it. These ***** are unique to corvettes and are GM
discontinued.
